Security Federal Credit Union, based in Flint, and Lapeer County Community Credit Union, based in Lapeer, are moving forward with plans to join forces in a strategic merger that will combine the two credit unions.

The result will be an even better credit union for our members. Combining two strong, healthy credit unions will result in many benefits for both memberships:

  • Expanded branch locations – once merged there will be 10 offices.
  • Enhanced products, services, and convenience.
  • Same high performing employees – no job losses.
  • Continued financial stability and soundness.
  • A credit union well positioned for the future.

“This is not a bank merger designed to make money for stockholders,” said Terry Pierce, President and Chief Executive Officer.  “This is a credit union combination to benefit members by providing more branch offices, very competitive rates, enhanced services, and the same knowledgeable, friendly employees.”

Member deposits will continue to be federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration and the combined credit union will retain all the services and commitment to quality that members rely on.

Some additional regulatory requirements must be met before this combination is finalized in September. Beginning in September 2008, operations will combine slowly over a period of approximately 12 months.

The credit union will be called Security Credit Union and will be headquartered at Security’s main office, 3801 W. Boulevard Drive, Flint, Michigan.
